starting another computer job - kindof re-entering the tech.work.place...
i've been doing cabinets and woodwork for the past 2 years, off & on, and i love it. working with my hands (but not on a keyboard) has been one of the most rewarding things i've ever done. i hope it's not actually ending, but is just being suspended until a better time.
there doesn't seem to be anything better than finishing a box, and it is simply what it is. you can sit down and drink a beer and think "yea". quite a bit different than completing a coding project and saying "done" (never with a capital D) - becuz the code is never finished, never actually complete, never Done. that has bothered me for the past 10 years or so...
and for some reason, nobody thanks you for the code. ever.
when you deliver a box, or a table, someone might say "that's beautiful", and they smile.
totally different.
